2021 NFL Mock Draft
April 28, 3:26pm - For the purpose of this mock I’m going to be looking at team needs and pure talent more than anything else. I haven’t included any trades to simplify, but the word as of now is that some teams might move back, allowing other teams to jump into the running for a QB. That being said, here’s my 2021 mock draft. – Palsgrove
No. 1. Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
-
I mean come on. This is one of the most sure-fire picks that anyone has ever seen in sports. Lawrence is landing in a nice spot in Jacksonville, with a team and fanbase that is in love with him, and with weapons at his disposal. My only hope is that the Jags don’t hurt the best football prospect we’ve had in a decade.
No. 2. New York Jets
Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
-
Wilson to NY has been confirmed since the Jet’s sent Darnold to the Panthers. It seems like a safe selection, but I personally have concerns that Wilson didn’t face enough competition in college, which may have severely impacted his performance. Who knows, maybe the Jets will get this one right, but their track record says otherwise.
3. San Francisco 49ers (via MIA/HOU)
Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
-
Oooo this is a fun one. This pick has been the talk of the town for weeks and seems to have caused a decent-sized divide in the San Fran front office. The word is that Shanahan has loved Jones since day one, but since their interview with Lance, the pick has been much more up in the air. The question is “Lance or Jones?”, and I say Jones. He’s been Shanahan’s guy since the trade with Miami, and being who he is, Shanahan gets to pick his QB.
-
I don’t have Jones very high on my big board at No. 17, but he’s exactly what the 49er’s need. He’s a perfect guy for their offense will star his role. I’ve recently heard that Jones’ floor is a bad Kirk Cousins, but his ceiling is Drew Brees. An intriguing pick for San Francisco.
4. Atlanta Falcons
Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
-
I love Kyle Pitts. I would give my teams next two years’ worth of picks to get him on my roster, but this is why I’m not an NFL GM. I love this pick for the Falcons’, however. Pairing Pitt’s with Ridley and Ryan is a beautiful thing that excites me.
5. Cincinnati Bengals
Ja'Marr Chase, WR, LSU
-
Burrow gets his wish here. He gets the second-best pass-catcher in the class, and his old college teammate. The Bengal’s here get to decide between my No. 3 overall prospect and my No. 4 overall prospect, Sewell and Chase. It’s a question of if they protect Burrow or give him his premier weapon back. I vote for the latter, thus the pick.
-
Another factor here is that this class is not relatively deep with WR prospects, and Chase is by far the best. In taking Chase over a O-Lineman, they get an every play touchdown threat, and they can still take a lineman in a later round.
6. Miami Dolphins (via PHI)
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
7. Detroit Lions
Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
8. Carolina Panthers
Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
9. Denver Broncos
Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
10. Dallas Cowboys
Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
11. New York Giants
Kwity Paye, DE, Michigan
12. Philadelphia Eagles (via MIA/SF)
DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
13. Los Angeles Chargers
Alijah Vera-Tucker, G, USC
14. Minnesota Vikings
Jaelan Phillips, DE, Miami
15. New England Patriots
Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
16. Arizona Cardinals
Azeez Ojulari, DE, Georgia
17. Las Vegas Raiders
Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
18. Miami Dolphins
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, ILB, Notre Dame
19. Washington Football Team
Micah Parsons, ILB, Penn State
20. Chicago Bears
Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
21. Indianapolis Colts
Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss
22. Tennessee Titans
Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
23. New York Jets (via SEA)
Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
24. Pittsburgh Steelers
Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
25. Jacksonville Jaguars (via LAR)
Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
26. Cleveland Browns
Christian Barmore, DT, Alabama
27. Baltimore Ravens
Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
28. New Orleans Saints
Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida
29. Green Bay Packers
Jamin Davis, ILB, Kentucky
30. Buffalo Bills
Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
31. Baltimore Ravens (via KC)
Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota
32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Zaven Collins, OLB, Tulsa
Draft Diary
April 29th, 8pm – I’m sitting down to watch the draft, this is gonna be my instant reactions and thoughts in real time. Should be fun, lets go!!
8:16pm – Anddddd we’re off!! Jags are on the clock, and I guess their fan is on stage, cause that’s a thing now. Lawrence was just on screen taking his air pods out, so it appears that he was called by the Jag’s, as he should be.
8:25pm – The pick is in. Finally. It’s Trevor Lawrence. Who’d of thunk??
8:33pm - The Jets pick is in. And its Zach Wilson! Wilson looks so hype and happy to go to the Jets, which is fun to see. He’s dapping up Jet’s fans and yelling with them, so he’s gonna be good for them. Now it’s the fun times, the 49ers are up.
8:40pm – The pick is in. My picks still Jones, but we’ll see what happens.
8:41pm – Here it is. They took Lance!!! That just happened! I’ve never been happier to be wrong. Everyone is so high on this guy, and he lands in The Bay. Good for him.
I’m curious what Shanahan thinks about the pick, and how Lance will fit in his scheme.
8:46pm – Just realized that I forgot Lance in my mock…. Oops. I’m embarrassed. Well, whatever, I was rushed.
8:48pm – the pick is in. It’s Pitts. Love it. Such a monster, and in a great situation.
8:58pm – the Bengals take Ja’Marr chase! I can hear Joe Burrow celebrating from here. It’s gonna be fun to watch them together.
9:04pm – The Dolphins take Jaylen Waddle. My mock is doing pretty decent. Waddle’s a great weapon for Tua and should be very consistent.
9:07pm - Apparently someone in my building called the cops after getting high with silly string, so that’s cool, I guess. My friends went to investigate.
9:12pm – The lions pick is in… it’s Penei Sewell. I was chanting “Not DeVonta pleaseeee”, I’m begging that Smith falls to my Birds at No. 12. Sewell was the right pick for the Lions, who believe that he has the highest HOF potential of any player.
9:18pm – The Panthers just select Jaycee Horn. I did not see that coming. Complete shock. I thought they would take an OT to protect Sammy Darnold.
9:24pm – It looks like the Broncos have been talking about trades, they took forever to put in the pick. But it appears that they didn’t trade though.
-
The Broncos take Surtain II. Great pick for the Broncos, but I thought it would be a QB to take over for Drew Lock.
9:29pm – Dallas is on the clock, and I only need DeVonta to fall two more picks. Two more!!! That would make my day, please give me DeVonta.
9:31pm – TRADE!! The eagles trade into No. 10 from the Cowboys. GIMME DEVONTA!! Also somehow we still have No. 12… I don’t know who we sent away. My bet is Zach Ertz.
9:33pm – Just heard that we traded a 3rd Round and No. 12 for No. 10. We still have 10 picks this draft. And our pick is in.
9:36pm – The commish is walking out to announce our pick. LET’S GOOOOO!!! WE GOT HIMMM!!!
9:40pm - Another Trade. The Bears trade up into No. 11 from the Giants, my friend is calling that they take Fields. The pick is in.
9:44pm – They took Fields! And he does not want to go there. There are no smiles in his house, and it’s hilarious. Da Bears.
9:52pm - The cowboys take Micah Parsons, from Penn State. Yuck. I liked him too.
I’m done for the night; it’s been a pleasure.
